CATÁLOGO DE INVESTIGACIONES | AÑO ACADÉMICO 2022-2023 81 Aquatecture: As Mitigator of Water Scarcity Global warming is a problem that occurs over long periods of time. It affects us little by little, but we increasingly notice the change it produces in our daily lives. With global warming, several problems arise that affect human lives. One of these problems is drought. My proposal is in Copiapó Chile, a town in the Atacama region and desert, and one of the driest places in South America. Chile is big on crop exportations and importations for its agriculture is very important. It is also known for its history with dry seasons and the big drought that lasted for approximately 10 years. The proposal aims to gather and distribute water for the crops in the vicinity. The concept was to develop a water pump experience centered on underground canals, allowing visitors to learn while participating in the water collection and distribution process. Alongside, the site will offer restaurants, a museum, and informative stations to increase awareness about water management and usage. The heart of the project is at the center where the main water storage pond collects the water from the underground canals and where the facade water canals are for rainwater disembogue. The project also serves as an information center and tourist spot, with the goal of maximizing water for crops and food for the city. yolyanne a. garcía meléndez bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. pedro a. rosario torres water drought global warming agriculture architecture
