EDUCACIÓN 116 Duties and Performance of English School Facilitators from the Puerto Rico Department of Education and Implications to Educational Management The goal of the English Program of the Puerto Rico Department of Education (PRDE) is for all students to reach their full potential in English language learning, with a mission of preparing individuals to become bilingual. For this reason, Law 149 (PRDE, 1999) stipulates the duties that are to be performed by the School Facilitators for each PRDE School Region. The researcher carried out an investigation to evaluate the level of importance and the level of presence of the duties performed by the English School Facilitator in elementary schools along the Ponce Region. The researcher investigated the perceptions of School Directors and English Teachers regarding the importance of the duties performed by English School Facilitators and how frequent they were experienced. The findings of the investigation revealed that all the duties assigned by the PRDE and performed by the English School Facilitators proved to be important for all participants. According to the data, not all of the duties performed were experienced. The duties that were less experienced by School Directors and English Teachers were: Prepare and present mini lessons, to be observed by teachers, with the purpose of helping teachers improve their teaching practice; Provide teachers with orientation on assessment techniques; Help teachers with the interpretation of the data collected from the Puerto Rico National Academic Achievement Standardized Tests (PRNAAST) in order to redirect the English program’s objectives and teaching strategies; Collaborate with the development of socio-cultural and academic activities that will develop students’ interaction; and Gather qualitative and quantitative data based on the teaching methodologies used in the classroom. The investigation contributes to the educational management field by identifying a profile of English School Facilitators.
