Native Puerto Ricans that reside within the island have a fifty percent chance of developing a cardiovascular pathology versus those who live abroad (Hernandez-Correa, 2013). Psychotherapy can provide health behavioral modification, confrontational strategies against psychological/ psychosocial disturbances and disruptive social support as proposed by the stress buffering model (Slatcher, 2010). Thorough analysis of the similarities and tendencies expressed by the participants were recovered and distributed among three dimensions: experience with psychotherapy, psychological/ psychosocial elements and experience with care-giving unit. The categories based on content analysis of the information are contributed by the model of Wolcott (1994). The narratives were presented into various categories, for example: integration of physical health, psychotherapy & intervention models, psychological meaning of cardiovascular disease or psychotherapy intervention needs for caregivers. The results indicated that the applications of tailored psychotherapeutic interventions are necessary. Psychotherapies such as CBT and Existential/ Spiritual psychotherapy are commonly applied by the participants to help this population, yet limited psychoeducation can provoke elevated depressive symptoms among patients. Caregivers need individualized psychological treatment to terminate disruptive behaviors that may lead to psychological disturbances. Health psychology is addressed to provide guidelines among professionals, but still there is a concern of the application among actual cases. josé a. valentín santana doctorado en filosofía con especialidad en psicología clínica mentor: dra. ana plaza montero cardiovascular pathology psychotherapy psycological factors health psychology clinical psychology
