98 ESCUELA DE ARQUITECTURA Climate, People and Architectural Design: The effect of Drought on the Human The planet earth is a giant sphere with different climates and areas to live, and on the past few years the most dominant asset that is living in it (human) is causing the planet to suffer from climate change to a more extreme impact. Why? In this capstone project you will find information on one of the many challenges or effect that climate change brings, and that is droughts. What are droughts? How they affect? Where are they located in the globe? Are there any solutions to prevent or minimize the effect? How are people living without water? How many types of droughts there are? This are the question that will explain a better understanding of the topic and give a more adaptive solution. Let make it clear that in one way or another climate change is affecting some places harder than others, and droughts are highly more likely to expand more around the globe if we don’t do something to decrease those moments. Around the world there are maybe five areas that researchers see as possible dry lands. And Cape Town is the number one city in the planet to be in a thin line of becoming a zero-water land, because of this. Two main reasons are the extreme human usage of wells and not having rain for long hours or even days. The focus of the project is to use a more efficient fog harvesting system, using metallic mesh with energy to capture more fog from thin air. eduardo j. rivera matías bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. pedro a. rosario arq. luis v. badillo climate change drought fog harvesting water shortages dry land
