102 ESCUELA DE ARQUITECTURA The Contemporary Castle In face of environmental, political, economic and social difficulties of our time, architecture faces the challenge of responding to and mitigating the damage done to human and material resources. The human need for self preservation transcends the elements that divide us such as race, culture, climate and religion, and becomes the universal link to overcome common threats. In light of Jean-Jaques Rousseau’s concept of “the social contract, the state has the obligation of reinstating law, order and look out for the wellbeing of its citizens, such as their basic human rights”. This project aims to provide a programme that uses passive defense as a design strategy to mitigate damages before, during and after a catastrophe, and facilitate recovery through medicine. gabriel e. hernández carrasquillo bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. luis v. badillo arq. pedro a. rosario passive defense research facility architecture solar electromagnetic pulsa germany
