84 ESCUELA DE ARQUITECTURA “Healing For a New Beginning” Capstone Project & Investigation This proposal is in the Nazi Abad sector in the capital of Iran, Tehran. The purpose of the project is to achieve the healing of drug dependent men in the area while we treat all human aspects, such as psychology, mental, physical, emotional health and spiritual aspects. The project has 112 rooms organized in the same volume, a perforated facade covers all with balconies facing Mecca and these emulating the Islamic architecture style with a minimalist expression. The first level of the dormitory building has six classrooms and workshops as part of the educational program to educate patients while they receive their treatment. The heart of the project is the space called “The Cocoon.” In this structure are the psychiatry and psychology programs that attend to the mental and emotional health of the institution’s patients. This structure also provides services and treatments to their relatives and close ones while serving as a meeting space for visitors and patients. On the outskirts of the central space, located to the southeast of the structure, is the Islamic Mosque that deals with the spiritual aspect in the project. This mosque has its own Sahn (courtyard) with a central fountain, praying spaces, and private spaces for men and women. The Mihrab has a perforation on its facade which contains one of the Salat prayers, allowing exterior light to enter the interior prayer space and creating an effect of orientation and reverence from within space. Outside the Mihrab is a reflection pool to stress the facade, while to the southeast of the mosque is the Minaret designed to reflect various architectural elements of the project. jan m. meléndez garcía bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. pedro a. rosario torres healing addiction spirituality holistic architecture
