CATÁLOGO DE INVESTIGACIONES | AÑO ACADÉMICO 2017-2018 121 The Perception of Music in Architecture In the restrictive sense, music is the art of coordinating and communicating sound effects, harmonious, and aesthetically valid, being transmitted through the voice and musical instruments. Space is the way we use to describe architecture and how it develops and create a place for human use that is pleasant and indispensable. In a way, “architecture is the frozen music”, meaning that anyone living in a city knows that noise pollution is an unbearable presence and its cause is the lack of urban acoustic planning. Architecture often forgets the intangible and invisible sound. Architecture, as a discipline, defines space as meeting points, lines and planes while sound has no center, has no clear horizon on which to project and its limits are nowhere. The connection between sound and architecture is given just by technical methods of implantation. However, the architect must handle a multi-sensory perception. As a concept of design, the melody is the main idea of this project, which is the need of interlacing space and harmony of its elements, in the design of buildings to create places that have the specialized characteristics for the perception of sound. The central area of Puerto Rico provides a romantic environment due to the quality of few construction developments. The aforementioned quality provided by the location gives a musical experience due to natural elements such as water, wind and vegetation, creating representative sounds and harmony. In the proposed project, every element that will be established for the design of landscaping areas will give musical experiences to the people, not only in the exterior but also in the interior of the building. The project will be a unique architectural design where the musical elements will combine the taste of harmony for the human being. vilma n. marrero cruz bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. luis ayala, arq. wilfredo méndez y arq. jesús o. garcía arquitectura música percepción ritmo armonía
