122 ESCUELA DE ARQUITECTURA Economic Integration between the Main Island (Puerto Rico) and the Smaller Island (Vieques) This project consists in a research on the economic situation of the main island versus Vieques Island evaluating options to promote and attract economic, touristic and infrastructural growth. As a site selection strategy, the places for intervention are ones that have been abandoned or are inactive today for many reasons. In the main island, the location is the old Roosevelt Roads military base in Ceiba, which besides having the characteristic of being a forsaken place, shows a practical opportunity, being the closest point from the main island to the smaller one. In the Vieques Island, the location is the Mosquito Pier, just at the end, where the structure of an abandoned terminal is located. To achieve the desirably integration between both islands, the proposal calls for a project with a hotel and a ferry terminal as main programs. The hotel amenities will be located in Ceiba with one of the terminal points. The hotel will provide the maritime transport to transfer guests and the general public. The other point of the terminal will be located in Vieques and once in the island-municipality, guests can begin their exploration inland. In addition, the Vieques terminal is projected to provide other facilities that are presently rare, like commercial areas, restaurants and a cinema/theatre, which will also serve the local community. The idea is to reactivate the area of Ceiba and, at the same time, bring movement to Vieques and generate the integration. yolymar muñoz cubí bachillerato en arquitectura mentor: arq. luis ayala, arq. fernando pabón y arq. raúl rivera architecture economy tourism recover abandoned spaces reactive integration
