Actas XII Católicos y Vida Pública |Organizar la esperanza para la comunión, la participación y la misión

40 actas del xii congreso católicos y vida pública If you can prepare your students to attain leadership, they are going to be moving directly into a world that clearly needs this capacity. I guess I want to make the point, especially for those of us in a faith tradition that it’s not simply VUCA, the fact that things are changing quickly, is also the nature of the change: • Widening inequality • Climate Change • Insecure employment and AI/Automation threats • Fraying social safety nets; inequitable education and healthcare access • Unhealthy strains of nationalism, insolationism, fundamentalism • Race as a factor in much of the above I will not go through the items, they’re all self-explanatory and obvious, but the underlying point is that not only the world is complex and changing but it’s also changing in trends, ways and directions that many of us feel quite disturbed about. Certainly, those in the Christian tradition would look at these changes and say there is some aspects of calling for us to look into them. We need to, somehow, show more leadership. Now let’s turn to the next question, and I am going to give you a few seconds for quiet reflection. Let me invite you first to think about names of one or two living people that you would consider to be good leaders and then, why do you think of these names? Also think of the personal attributes, qualities, characteristics that you would associate with somebody who is leading well. I will give you just a few minutes. So, who are leaders? Probably you thought of wonderful names. I bet somebody in this audience thought about Pope Francis. I wonder who thought of their own name. We are under the umbrella of a Catholic University in a conference that is talking about Catholic themes. Within the theme of this conference the first people we would need to think about as leaders are ourselves. And what good leaders do to motivate people.
