Actas XII Católicos y Vida Pública |Organizar la esperanza para la comunión, la participación y la misión

97 la propuesta cristiana ante los desafíos de un mundo en cambio because you really need to go to these primary sources and know what the church is saying in documents, not in secondary sources, not in tertiary sources where sometimes you know authors have their own interpretation, theologians have their interpretation, but present that as the official documents. These are some documents to be kept in mind, the statements, and emphasizing the duty to evangelize, now here is another little problem that of course the church found a solution to this. From the second Vatican Council they emphasized the duty also to evangelize which comes right after the church’s declaration of respect of other faiths so, if you read all these documents of the second Vatican Council on one side, and you of course, have to respect the Muslim´s faith, or the Jews faith or other faiths, but on the other hand, you have to proclaim the gospel and evangelize, where do you draw the line, because there is some apparent contradiction, so how can this be resolved. In its official text, the church has consistently maintained that interreligious dialogue includes both, and the church doesn’t actually see any contradiction between the two proclamations of faith and respect of other religions; both understanding others and sharing the gospel are not contradictory. For instance the document of the attitude of the church towards the followers of other religions, that was reflected in the dialogue and mission, which was released in 1984. It speaks particularly of this duality which complement each other, and how to approach this? This document gives some tools. These tools outline four types of dialogue that in a way combine both the proclamation of the gospel on one side and also evangelization. I’m not talking about proselytizing. It speaks about four types of dialogue, it speaks about the dialogue of life. How we share life, how we live without neighbors. The dialogue of action which is very important, the dialogue of theological exchange, and the fourth one is the dialogue of religious experience. I find this document of 1984 pretty powerful, which combines both the proclamation and also the respect to the dialogue of life, where people strive rather to live in an open and neighborly spirit with the other. The dialpgue of action is doing things together with Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists. The dialogue of theological exchange usually is done among professional theologians, but also in a university setting just like my students with the angels and theology. What is the theology of the angels in Islam? What is the theology of angels in Christianity? That’s theological dialogue, and then the dialogue of religious experience where persons rooted in la tradición intelectual católica como medio para el diálogo...
