Actas XII Católicos y Vida Pública |Organizar la esperanza para la comunión, la participación y la misión

102 actas del xii congreso católicos y vida pública audience were taken and interpreted out of context. It was a single citation actually removed from the context and the theological framework of the lecture that caused the controversy. I am not going into an argument on this, but yes there are some points to be kept in mind and, again, I am a byzantinist as well and that was a citation from emperor Michael II Paleologos, he was citing the byzantine emperor.. The point is despite the whole negativity that received in the media Benedict´s XVI lecture, when it started to sink in, I can say that at the University of Regensburg it opened wide avenues for truth seeking through important interreligious dialogue, and what the Pope had in mind was truth seeking among christians and muslim scholars, and the other dimension of this is that Benedict XVI puts the university as the locus for dialogue. And now another dimension into religious dialogue that is extremely important. Benedict XVI never lost faith in the university as a place of interdisciplinarity encounters and dialogue among the specialized disciplines, and also he made the point that sometimes high specialization in a field makes a school lose sight of the whole when we, as catholic university professors are not looking at a piece, but we are looking at the whole student. It is a holistic kind of education, and Pope Benedict here speaks about this holistic integral approach to education. The very term universitas is emblematic of Benedict’s XVI´s understanding of the modern time university and especially the catholic university and its holistic mission. In 2011 during the apostolic journey to Madrid, Pope Benedict called upon universities and study centers to take the lead and become places of candid exchange of religious ideas. For Benedict XVI the university is locus, has always been the house where one seeks the truth proper to the human person and for intercultural and interreligious dialogue. Pope Benedict XVI overly affirms the purpose of interreligious dialogue as a theological and truth seeking measure exploring life’s big question, including the origin of humankind, good and evil and eternal destiny. The pontiff is promoting a theological dialogue in search of truth making a convincing argument in my view that, although the theologies and the ways of approaching the truth might be different, for example muslims and christians on angels, process of truth seeking, of interreligious dialogue and exploring life´s deep theological questions from the point of view of one’s own faith and tradition can build a solid foundation for peace and security. And this is what he is proposing to
