So this is a process to find the truth and in this process people of faith can find a dialogue, they can find a dialogue with each other. Truth and peace are two sides of the same coin. The splendor of truth leads to peace and peaceful coexistence. Benedict XVI argues that peace cannot be reduced to the naive absence of armed conflict, instead it needs to be understood as the fruit of an order which has been planted in human society by its divine founder, and this type of dialogue, according to Pope Benedict, brings peace. And he is not talking only about the peace that you know, peace and war, but he was talking about an interior peace which is more important. I think sometimes, finding that interior peace is the most important thing. So I am just summarizing the thoughts of Benedict XVI. For Benedict XVI truth is one and truth unites. The peace-by-peace approach to truth, a truth seeking leads to finding commonalities among different religions, and the university is the locus of dialogue, this is his thesis. Now Pope Francis advocates for catholic universities as hubs of encounter and this is one of his terms: encounter. If someone asked me to identify a distinctive characteristic of Pope Francis I would highlight his emphasis on being the pope of encounter, which encompasses, includes, interreligious dialogue of course. Encounter is an introduction, an introduction to the preliminary condition for dialogue. One cannot dialogue without the encounter first, you need to encounter a person and then to start a dialogue and Pope Francis stresses that encounter, promoting the culture of encounter in the university, that is very powerful. I think, and I have several examples here even from Greek thought and you know what’s the difference between encounter and dialogue. So the encounter is opening the door and then the dialogue is going deeper. Pope Francis is in favor of that. Rereading the message of Pope Francis to the participants of the Fourth international congress of Pluriel, the university platform, on Islam on February 4 to the 7th 2024 it is significant the importance he gives to interreligious dialogue. The occasion was the fifth anniversary of the February 2019 document on human fraternity for world peace and living together that Pope Francis co-signed with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb.
