In February Pope Francis reiterated his stand against war and in favor of peace stating that fraternity and coexistence are undermined by injustices and wars which he described as always being defeats for humanity and also, dialogue. And, of course, this dialogue includes the interreligious dialogue. The Holy Father identifies the roots of these evils. And, which are these roots? A lack of understanding of others; second, a failure to listen; and third, a lack of intellectual flexibility, very important,a lot of common sense, but at the same time very important steps that Pope Francis is providing, for me personally, as a faculty member: how to engage in dialogue. Three flaws and these are three flaws in the human spirit that undermine fraternity and we need to remedy them. These flaws are central to the pedagogy of all who teach and have dedicated their lives to mission and also to interreligious dialogue. On february 25, 2023 in an audience comprising rectors, professors, administrators, and students of the pontifical roman universities pope Francis said something about the university and especially the catholic pontifical universities and this is what he said: “These are schools of harmony and consonance among different voices and instruments. It is not a school of uniformity” he says “No, it is one of harmony and consonance among different voices and instruments like the orchestra that we saw last night” that is his vision for the university. Now interreligious dialogue in the curricula in catholic studies, actually we have included two courses which are very popular among our student body: one is catholic and muslims in dialogue and it’s very practical, so we go very much to the praxis. Another course is global christianity because when I created the program, of course with the faculty on my side, we thought about ecumenism and also interreligious dialogue. Ecumenism is the dialogue among christians, for example, Catholics and orthodox in dialogue or Catholics and Protestants in dialogue, even that is a dimension. The other courses that deal with Muslims, again in Seton Hall we are seeing many students, many muslim students coming, so there is an application, a direct application of all the topics that I cover.
